ANALISA KERUSAKAN WATER SEAL DAN OIL SEAL PADA WATER PUMP UNIT KOMATSU EXCAVATOR PC850R-8 DI PT UNITED TRACTORS Tbk BALIKPAPAN

The trouble that occurred in the Komatsu Excavator PC850R-8 unit was the engine overheating caused by the engine oil mixed with coolant. The mixture of engine oil and coolant is caused by the damage to the water seal and oil seal on the water pump and the occurrence of clogging on the indicator hole. If there is no immediate troubleshooting in the engine, it will cause fatal damage to the engine and breakdown of the unit. This study aims to analyze the causes of damage to the water seal and oil seal in the water pump, analyze the process of the engine oil mixed with coolant in the Komatsu Excavator PC850R-8 unit, as well as take appropriate corrective actions in the water pump unit Komatsu Excavator PC850R-8. This research was conducted using the field observation method and Scheduled Oil Sampling (SOS). Based on the results of the engine inspection and the results of the Scheduled Oil Sampling (SOS), the conclusions are that the damage to the water seal and oil seal water pump was caused by the use of bad quality coolant with corrosive coolant composition with a composition of pH 1.3, EC 31200, 12 Glycol and 0% Nitrite with percentage of coolant quality decreases is 83%. It’s causes the rust on the cooling system components and damage to the water seal. The rust carried along with the coolant enters the water pump and causes clogging on the indicator hole to cause damage to the oil seal. This oil seal damage results in the absence of a separator on the water pump which results in engine oil mixed with coolant. The occurrence of this engine oil mixed with coolant causes engine overheating. The corrective actions taken are by replacing the water seal and oil seal, cutting the indicator hole, and using the AF-NAC coolant standard in the engine. Permasalahan yang terjadi pada unit Komatsu Excavator PC850R adalah engine overheating yang disebabkan karena engine oil tercampur coolant. Tercampurnya engine oil dan coolant disebabkan karena kerusakan water seal dan oil seal pada water pump dan terjadinya clogging pada indicator hole. Apabila tidak segera dilakukan troubleshooting pada engine, maka akan mengakibatkan kerusakan fatal pada engine dan breakdown unit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa penyebab terjadinya kerusakan water seal dan oil seal pada water pump, menganalisa proses terjadinya engine oil tercampur coolant pada unit Komatsu Excavator PC850R-8, serta melakukan tindakan perbaikan yang tepat pada water pump unit Komatsu Excavator PC850R-8. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode field observation dan Scheduled Oil Sampling (SOS). Berdasarkan hasil pemeriksaan engine dan hasil pengujian Scheduled Oil Sampling (SOS) disimpulkan bahwa kerusakan water seal dan oil seal water pump disebabkan karena penggunaan coolant yang tidak tepat dengan komposisi coolant yang bersifat corrosive dengan komposisi pH 1.3, EC 31200, Glycol 12 dan Nitrite 0% dengan presentase quality decrease coolant 83%. Hal ini menyebabkan terjadinya karat pada komponen cooling system dan kerusakan water seal. Karat yang terbawa bersama coolant masuk ke water pump dan menyebabkan terjadinya clogging pada indicator hole hingga menyebabkan kerusakan oil seal. Kerusakan oil seal ini mengakibatkan tidak adanya penyekat pada water pump sehingga mengakibatkan terjadinya engine oil tercampur coolant. Terjadinya engine oil tercampur coolant ini menyebabkan engine overheating. Upaya perbaikan yang dilakukan adalah dengan mengganti water seal dan oil seal, melakukan cutting pada indicator hole, dan menggunakan coolant standard AF-NAC pada engine.
