PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN CETANE BOOSTER TERHADAP EMISI GAS BUANG PADA MOBIL DAIHATSU HI-LINE

The problem of air pollution due to motor vehicle emissions has reached an alarming point, especially in big cities. From various moving sources such as passenger cars, trucks, buses, railroad locomotives, aircraft and ships. At present, and in the future it will continue to be the dominant source of urban air pollution. And the problem in air pollution is the emission of motorized vehicles where most of these motorized vehicles use fuel (BBM) in the form of leaded diesel which acts as a significant contributor to pollution of air quality and health. The power produces by a combustion motor depends on the combustion of the fuel mixture and the air that occurs in the combustion chamber. It means that the better quality of a fuel, the better performance produced. Efforts to improve the efficiency of the combustion process in the combustion chamber either gasoline or diesel engines are carried out in various ways, one of which is by adding a cetane booster to diesel fuel so that the combustion process is better therefore the resulting pollution decreases. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of adding centane booster to diesel fuel. The method used in this study was to add a cetane booster to diesel fuel with a variable number and then test the emissions of the vehicle exhaust gas that had been carried out by adding cetane booster. From the results of the trial obtained a decrease in opacity as much as 0.51% from the results of the sample addition of cetane booster. Therefore if more cetane booster was added, there higher was decreasing in the opacity or exhaust gas of the vehicle. Permasalahan polusi udara akibat emisi kendaraan bermotor sudah mencapai titik yang mengkhawatirkan, terutama dikota-kota besar. Dari berbagai sumber bergerak seperti mobil penumpang, truk, bus, lokomotif kereta api, pesawat, dan kapal laut. Saat ini, maupun dikemudian hari akan terus menjadi sumber yang dominan dari pencemaran udara di perkotaan. Dan yang menjadi masalah dalam pencemaran udara adalah emisi kendaraan bermotor dimana sebagian besar kendaraan bermotor ini menggunakan bahan bakar minyak (BBM) berupa solar yang mengandung timah hitam (leaded) yang berperan sebagai penyumbang polusi cukup besar terhadap kualitas udara dan kesehatan. Daya yang dihasilkan oleh suatu motor bakar tergantung dari pembakaran campuran bahan bakar dan udara yang terjadi di dalam ruang bakar (combustion chamber). Ini berarti semakin baik kualitas dari suatu bahan bakar, maka performa yang dihasilkan akan semakin baik pula. Upaya meningkatkan efisiensi proses pembakaran dalam ruang bakar baik mesin bensin ataupun mesin diesel dilakukan melalui berbagai cara, salah satunya dengan melakukan penambahan cetane booster pada bahan bakar solar agar proses pembakaran menjadi lebih baik sehingga polusi yang dihasilkan menurun. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari tahu pengaruh dari penambahan centane booster ke bahan bakar solar. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan menambahkan cetane booster ke bahan bakar solar dengan jumlah bervariabel kemudian melakukan uji emisi terhadap gas buang kendaraan yang sudah dilakukan penambahan cetane booster. Dari hasil uji coba didapatkan hasil penurunan opasitas sebanyak 0,51% dari hasil sampel penambahan cetane booster. Sehingga jika semakin banyak penambahan cetane booster maka semakin tinggi pula penurunan dari opasitas atau gas buang kendaraan.
